DISCOVER THE HORSES IN SARATOGA SPRINGS CLOSE TO UNION GALBES INN
Saratoga Springs history revolves around horses. As early as 1847 when a meet was held on a dirt track adjacent to Union Avenue called “Horse Haven,” horses, racing and wagering have been a winning combination in Saratoga Springs.
Horse Haven, a dirt track, was built on East Avenue near the intersection of Union Avenue. During this time, many spectators chose to view the races from their elegant open carriages. A day at the races was as much about seeing as it was "Being Seen".
Saratoga Springs has a horse crossing sign located on Union Avenue to stop traffic as the horses are guided from one side to the other of Union Avenue (Route 9P) for Horse Shows or during the Saratoga Race Course six week meet.
Horses are part of what makes Saratoga Springs the place to be! Horse Shows open up in April and again in the Fall three blocks from Union Gables Inn. Experieince the excitement of the Horse Sales at Fastig-Tipton in August and October, two blocks from Union Gables Inn. Saratoga Polo is a classic weekly event every Summer at the Polo fields located one mile from Union Gables near the Saratoga Hospital.
